Beck Greener Wins National Award in 2018 for STEM: Branching Out Project
Following on from the success in the Lord Mayor’s Dragon Awards in September 2018, we are delighted to announce that Beck Greener was also recently awarded the STEM Employer, Small and Medium Enterprises award in the STEM Inspiration Awards 2018. The award win was in recognition of our “STEM: Branching Out” project which aims to inspire young people from diverse backgrounds within London to engage with the STEM (science, technology, engineering & maths) subjects at school and to enter STEM careers.
Organised by STEM Learning UK, the STEM Inspiration Awards recognise and celebrate individuals, organisations and clubs working to inspire young people in STEM subjects. At the awards, which took place at a prestigious event at the House of Lords in November 2018, the organisers commented that:
“Beck Greener is an outstanding example of how to provide support for young people in STEM, working with stakeholders to support young people more effectively.”
In one part of the project, our STEM Ambassadors run a “Spot-The-Invention” workshop in which students examine old and new versions of gadgets to identify improvements. In another part, we assess the patentability of school science/engineering projects and helped students prepare and file real patent applications.
As the Beck Greener partner responsible for the CSR programme, James Stones said:
“We are absolutely thrilled to have received this award for our “STEM: Branching Out” project. The award is actually our second award achievement for 2018 for this project and this positive recognition will continue to inspire us to develop our project to reach even more young people in the future.”
