Patent protection is key for medical and diagnostic devices, as they are not typically subject to the same patentability exemptions as medical and diagnostic methods.
We have a particular interest in this area and represent a broad range of clients. They include a National Health Service trust, universities start-ups, and multinational companies. We also work on varied medical device technology. Examples include adhesives for lateral flow and microfluidic diagnostic devices; contact lenses; blood treatment systems; glucose monitors; 3D printers for pharmaceuticals; injection apparatuses; hardware for the treatment of glaucoma, and intense pulsed light apparatus for dermatological treatment.
Our Scandinavian client RSP Systems researches and develops technology for the non-invasive measurement of blood sugar levels using Raman spectroscopy. The technology is potentially life changing for diabetics across the world; the non-invasive manner of measurement removing barriers for use. Beck Greener has supported RSP in the development of its IP portfolio, drafting and prosecuting a broad range of patent applications that have developed into a commercially significant portfolio of IP rights in this crowded technical area.
