Hearing Things

Beck Greener News

The Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorney’s official publication the ‘CITMA Review’ has just published the results of their annual analysis of data on hearings before the UK Intellectual Property Office and the Appointed Person (a senior IP lawyer hearing appeals on trade mark cases from the IPO), and once again Beck Greener is prominently featured.  The firm is second in the list of all UK firms in terms of number of appearances at hearings over the last five years, with our head of trade marks, Ian Bartlett, the second most frequent advocate.  In addition, another of our partners, Rowland Buehrlen, was the seventh most frequent advocate at hearings over the last five years.

A lot of firms hire barristers to represent clients at hearings, though at Beck Greener we handle the advocacy ourselves, believing that the attorney who has handled the case from the outset is best placed to argue it before the tribunal, and our strong record of success bears that out.
