To train to become a patent attorney you must have at least a good first degree in engineering or a relevant science, though many of the firm’s current and past trainees have further degrees, and several have experience working in industry.
To train as a trade mark attorney you must have a good first degree in any subject, however the firm prefer to take on recently qualified barristers or solicitors in such positions.
Supervision and training is taken very seriously, and a number of recent trainees at Beck Greener won prizes for their performance in the qualifying examinations. Trainees are highly valued in our firm. We hope and expect that trainees will stay on once qualified to work as part of the team. The three newest partners in the firm started their patent careers at Beck Greener.
The partners and associates are assisted by a number of support staff. These include members of the accounts department, and a team of secretaries, some of whom also perform paralegal duties. Beck Greener has a records and renewals department responsible for the maintenance of a database of cases, instructing the payment of renewal and maintenance fees, and dealing with the validation of European patents on grant. The majority of the support staff have been with the firm for many years, though vacancies do arise from time to time.
